Book Summary: While few of us can put our finger on exactly what's wrong with today's health care, John W. Gollatz, M.D. does so in Society's Mirror: Reflections on Health Care Reform. He turns his mirror on all the major players in the current health care system, presenting the good, the bad, and the unethical with equal fairness. While he contends that most of the players are well-intentioned, his balanced analysis exposes the greed of insurance companies and doctors, and the ineptitude of legislators, patients and administrators. Ultimately, he places the responsibility of good health care squarely where it belongs on those of us who need it and pay for it. While the issues Gollatz raises are deeply disturbing, his solution putting the control over health care into the hands of the patient is encouraging and empowering. |
