Biography:     My name is Aaron Buechlein. I am 26 years old. I have a B.S. in Biology and will be graduating in May 2007 with an M.S. in Bioinformatics.

During my time at Indiana University, my interests developed into proteomics and machine learning. My Master’s thesis project includes developing a method for obtaining information from online scientific journal articles in a timely fashion through the use of a web-crawler and a unique scoring function. This method was then applied to gathering data for the purpose of building a lysine acetylation site predictor. Perl and Matlab were the chosen technologies used to complete this year long project. Specifically, perl was used to construct the web-crawler portion and Matlab was used to construct the predictor portion.

I believe my educational background provided me with the skills to succeed in a technological environment but also demonstrates my ability succeed in more diverse areas as well. I was exposed to various programming environments including perl, php, java, Matlab and several others. I feel confident in extending my skills to new programming environments I may not be familiar with as well as to areas not related to programming. Most importantly I feel my background demonstrates my ability and willingness to learn. I also believe that the opportunity of being an Associate Instructor for an undergraduate class at Indiana University has given me the ability to teach and communicate with others more effectively.
