SAN DIEGO -- San Diego-based Skylight Healthcare Systems and Catholic Healthcare West today announced a contract to install Skylight's ACCESS(SM) Interactive Patient System (ACCESS) - formerly GetWellTV - in the under construction Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. The hospital, located in Gilbert, AZ, is currently 85 percent complete and is scheduled for a June 2006 opening. Working concurrently with construction, Skylight Healthcare Systems is wiring the facility with a state-of-the-art network infrastructure including digital connections to nearly every patient room, offering modern entertainment and information resources to patients and visitors.
With Skylight's ACCESS System, standard hospital television monitors will be transformed into multimedia centers, empowering patients with a direct connection to health education resources and entertainment amenities with a push of a button. ACCESS will allow Mercy Gilbert Medical Center patients, families and visitors to be entertained with feature films on demand, digital music, expanded television channels, email access and interactive games. In addition, patients will have on-demand control to view key hospital information, watch a library of patient education videos plus a forum to provide real-time feedback and make room comfort requests on their own - all from the in-room television. Similar to systems common in the hospitality industry, but specifically designed for the healthcare setting, patients will be provided with a specialized, integrated remote control and a custom wireless keyboard to view key information about the hospital and their stay.
The Mercy Gilbert Medical Center will be a part of a larger development, and will provide comprehensive services on a 100-acre diversified medical campus. Mercy Gilbert Medical Center is located at the SE corner of Val Vista Road and the future San Tan Freeway (Loop 202), and will open as an 88-bed facility which will include an emergency department, women's services, outpatient surgery and diagnostic imaging. "Catholic Healthcare West is designing a state-of-the-art facility with the Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, and as such, demanded a state-of-the-art patient experience," said Laurie Eberst, President and CEO of Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. "By deciding to install the Skylight ACCESS Interactive Patient System, we are using the power of today's modern technology to provide a warm, inviting and empowered experience for our future patients, guests and staff," continued Eberst.
"ACCESS has proven to increase both patient satisfaction and nursing job satisfaction, and aids the hospital staff by allowing nurses more time to do what they do best--care for patients," said David Schofield, President and CEO of Skylight. "And, giving patients more control, empowering them with information and decreasing their boredom enhances their experience, ultimately leading to a quicker and better recovery. We are honored that Skylight Healthcare Systems was chosen by Catholic Healthcare West to be a part of the exciting new Mercy Gilbert Medical Center facility," finished Schofield.
