SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- San Diego-based BidShift, a leading provider of web-based shift-scheduling technology and workforce effectiveness solutions for healthcare providers, has implemented its online system at Sun Health of Sun City, Arizona, to provide an automated approach for filling open shifts across its two healthcare organizations -- Sun Health Boswell and Del E. Webb hospitals.
BidShift's innovative software and web-based solution for filling open shifts transforms what traditionally has been a time- and labor-intensive manual process and reduces reliance on expensive contract labor. Healthcare organizations currently using BidShift across the United States are experiencing substantial payback and annualized cost savings ranging between $400,000 and $3.2 million per hospital.
"BidShift offers nursing management the opportunity to significantly improve staff communication and productivity by automating the visibility and assignment of open shifts," stated Nancy Zismann, R.N., assistant vice president of patient-care services at Sun Health Boswell Hospital. "Nurse managers can post all of their needs in a one- to two-hour period per four-week scheduling cycle. Before using BidShift, 70 percent of managers estimate they were spending 12 hours to 15 hours per schedule on filling open shifts."
Nursing staff use the technology to log on from work or home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to identify available shifts and make on-line requests for shifts that match their skills, experience and lifestyle interests across both facilities. In the first three weeks of implementation, more than 750 nursing staff have enrolled to participate in the cutting-edge staffing program, and 478 requests to fill open shifts have been submitted.
"BidShift's configurable incentive options, its ease of use, and the depth of its service team's experience with similar multi-hospital systems were key factors in our decision to implement their technology over existing staffing product capabilities," said Marcie Coffman R.N., assistant vice president of patient-care services at Sun Health Del E. Webb Hospital. "BidShift is the best solution, providing value-added functionality to help us achieve our staffing objectives."
Sun Health is implementing BidShift as a means to leverage its existing resource pool, give staff more choice and flexibility over the shifts they work, drive employee satisfaction and retention, and provide a competitive advantage for the recruitment of qualified staff. The hospital is using regular pay with incentives for creating high visibility into staffing needs, and easy sign-up for open shifts.
"Sun Health adds to BidShift's growing position in the Southwest market," stated Bruce Springer, president/CEO of BidShift. "We look forward to working with Sun Health to ease the impact of the local nursing shortage while bringing new cost and efficiency gains to its facilities."
BidShift is currently is used in more than 75 hospitals across 18 states and the District of Columbia.
