Bluesocket(R) Offers Open Management of Market Leading Access Points

Expands Product Portfolio to Help Healthcare Customers Leverage Existing Cisco, Proxim, Avaya and 3COM Infrastructures While Simplifying Operations
SAN DIEGO -- Bluesocket, Inc. (www.bluesocket.com), the leader in open wireless security and management solutions, today announced that it has expanded its BlueView (TM) Management System (BVMS) to offer customers open management of Cisco, Proxim, Avaya and 3COM access points (APs). With this announcement, Bluesocket becomes the first WLAN solutions provider to enable its customers to easily manage, configure and update Bluesocket APs as well as other vendors APs from one location. This capability is especially critical for Bluesocket healthcare customers who already have "thick" APs deployed from other vendors and want to leverage their existing investments while also simplifying operations.

This expansion of Bluesocket's BVMS provides customers with an integrated and interoperable management solution that enables them to configure Cisco and other vendors APs right out of the box. BVMS has always been able to monitor APs, but now administrators can ensure security and software revision control by upgrading software and patch levels for several APs all at once. In addition, BVMS open access control provides a cost-effective, all-in-one solution, eliminating the need for customers to buy additional management products that offer inferior functionality and create administrative complexities.

"We have 200 Cisco APs currently deployed. This new functionality from Bluesocket allows us to easily manage and update our Cisco APs without having to use several different management products, or worse, tear out our existing APs altogether," said Terry Sutter, director of Infrastructure and Operations at Mount Carmel Health. "In addition, BVMS enables us to comply with stringent privacy regulations like HIPAA and helps our caregivers run mobile applications with complete security and privacy. This gives us the confidence to take full advantage of what wireless technology has to offer."

Bluesocket & Mobile Medicine

The nature of healthcare is based on mobile professionals. Bluesocket is working to manage mobile handheld devices ensuring that doctors, nurses and other staff have secure wireless access to information as they move throughout a healthcare center, enabling accurate data entry right at the point of care - the patient's bedside.

Bluesocket has numerous healthcare customer deployments around the world where its WLAN solutions help secure patient records, authenticate users and manage Wireless LANs. Bluesocket's support for security and management controls facilitates compliance with mandated privacy guidelines such as HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act), essential to hospital IT operations.

Most recently, Bluesocket announced enhancements across its BlueSecure(TM) product family that allow companies to implement voice over Wi-Fi with the utmost quality and security (see, http://www.bluesocket.com/news/prItem.csp?id=223). As part of this announcement, Bluesocket extended the functionality of its BlueSecure solution set with DynamicRF(TM), which includes the ability for the access point to automatically adjust itself based on changing RF conditions, 802.11i fast roaming capabilities, and client load balancing. Additionally, BlueSecure v5.1 includes software that upgrades the BlueSecure Access Point to an AP/sensor combination. It detects and blocks rogue access points and WLAN attacks, extends and complements the company's intrusion detection system, and further simplifies the deployment and security of WLAN systems.

Bluesocket's enhanced BVMS will ship in March 2006.
