SAN DIEGO -- Initiate Systems, Inc., the recognized standard in enterprise master person index (EMPI) software for the healthcare industry, will demonstrate its patient identification and interoperability capabilities at the HIMSS06 Conference, opening today. Initiate's activities will include a preview of Initiate Identity Hub(TM) 7 software, a real-world demonstration of Initiate(TM) software at work in the 2006 HIMSS Interoperability Showcase and a presentation with an Initiate customer entitled "Accurate Patient Identification: The Foundation of an EHR and NHIN."
"Accurate patient identification and interoperability of healthcare information are critical issues in the rapidly changing healthcare industry," said Scott Harper, senior vice president and general manager of Initiate's healthcare practice. "Many of the largest healthcare providers have selected Initiate(TM) software because it provides the most accurate and scalable EMPI available and enables interoperability, while protecting data privacy and security."
Preview of New EMPI Capabilities
Initiate will be demonstrating, in Booth 2427, new healthcare-specific capabilities in the next version of Initiate Identity Hub(TM) software, available this spring. The new version will increase the accuracy and availability of patient data throughout the healthcare organization and streamline interoperability and data integration. Initiate Identity Hub(TM) 7 software will: provide a complete and customizable view of patient and provider information to multiple systems; automatically update internal and external source applications and databases with new patient or provider information; allow users to fine tune algorithms and weight tables for greater control and flexibility; and support Health Level Seven (HL7) Query Response.
Enabling RHIO Interoperability
Initiate is exhibiting its EMPI software in the 2006 Interoperability Showcase, which is designed as a HIMSS Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) to demonstrate how health information can be exchanged within a community, such as an entire city, throughout a single state and across multiple states. Showcase attendees will experience interoperability in real-world patient care scenarios as they create and manage their own virtual health records and then access them across multiple healthcare settings within the showcase.
Clinical scenarios will be enabled by the standards-based Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) framework, demonstrating how companies incorporate interoperability into their frameworks. Initiate Identity Hub(TM) software will facilitate the integration and interoperability of participating healthcare systems such as EHRs, PACs and clinical repositories to provide the most accurate and complete patient identity via HL7 message integration.
Last month, Initiate Identity Hub(TM) software passed the IHE's Patient Identifier Cross-reference (PIX) Manager Profile and the Patient Demographics Query (PDQ) Manager Profile tests at Connectathon, a weeklong interoperability-testing event. Connectathon allows participating companies to test their implementation of IHE capabilities with corresponding systems from industry peers. During the event, systems from multiple vendors exchange information and perform all of the required transactions. Initiate(TM) software incorporates both PIX Manager and PDQ Manager capabilities within one product, offering healthcare customers the best capability for true interoperability.
In conjunction with Initiate's participation in the 2006 Interoperability Showcase, Lorraine Fernandes, RHIA, senior vice president of strategy for Initiate's healthcare practice, will present "Patient Identification as the Strategic Foundation for Interoperability" on Monday, Feb. 13, from 3:30 to 4 p.m. in Booth 7319, Theater A.
Accurate Patient Identification
Fernandes and an Initiate customer from one of the largest hospitals in the western U.S. will present "Accurate Patient Identification: The Foundation of an EHR and NHIN" on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 4:15 to 5 p.m. in the Electronic Health Record Theater, Booth 7001. They will discuss how accurate patient identification and linkage provide timely patient data access, more cost-effective care and enhanced patient safety. Using case studies, the session will also explore current and future initiatives and demonstrate how accurate patient identification achieves results.
More than 600 Healthcare Customers Have Relied on Initiate Systems
More than 50 healthcare organizations have deployed Initiate Identity Hub(TM) software and more than 600 have relied on Initiate for patient data quality remediation services. Initiate Identity Hub(TM) software is the most accurate, scalable and rapidly implemented EMPI solution available for healthcare providers, integrated delivery networks (IDNs) and RHIOs that want to improve patient identification and customer satisfaction, protect data privacy and security, enable interoperability and provide a critical foundation for electronic health record (EHR) implementations. Initiate(TM) software and services enable strategic initiatives that allow healthcare organizations to improve patient safety and care, provide new services and ensure regulatory compliance.
