BATESVILLE, Ind. -- Hill-Rom, a leading global provider of healthcare solutions, has added new technology to the latest release of its nurse communication solution, COMLinx(R) Nurse Communication Module (NCM), to further simplify caregiver communication and to augment a hospital's fall prevention programs.
NCM 4.0 is a powerful communications tool providing instant, hands-free communication among caregivers, patients and other staff. NCM 4.0 introduces enterprise-wide patient and staff administration. Staff productivity can be enhanced with the ability to enter patient or staff information and to make patient or staff assignments on any hospital networked personal computer. Enterprise-wide patient or staff administration reduces data entry at the NCM Master Station, where important patient calls are occurring.
Additionally, NCM 4.0 integrates with Hill-Rom's newest product, OnSite(TM) System Software, enabling important clinical and operational data from the bed to be available across the hospital's IT network. It adds configurable alerts and other patient safety and operational alerts based on real-time bed information. NCM 4.0 with OnSite(TM) System Software provides additional alerting and data management capabilities by accessing more than 30 data points from Hill-Rom VersaCare(R) and TotalCare(R) beds. Information, ranging from advanced patient fall program compliance data, such as bed exit information, to patient weight to percussion/vibration therapy length can help hospitals meet their JCAHO safety goals and other patient safety and adverse- event reduction programs.
"This is a powerful tool for today's busy caregivers because it saves them time and effort, but still allows them to respond more quickly to a patient's needs," said Don Maier, Hill-Rom's senior vice president of North America. "This leads to happier staff and patients, and hospitals that use NCM 4.0 could see improved patient outcomes, a decrease in staff turnover and improved efficiency in the care process."
These new features build on NCM's existing intelligent attributes such as fully integrated locating and room-to-room communications. The NCM system brings a new level of calm to the care setting, maintaining a peaceful environment free of overhead paging, further improving caregiver efficiency while enhancing patient satisfaction.
NCM 4.0 and its integration with OnSite System Software will be previewed at Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference and Exhibition in San Diego on February 13-16, 2006. NCM 4.0 and OnSite System Software will be available later this year.
