Blue Vector Unveils RFID Platform for Pharmaceutical Industry |
| Pharmaceutical Edition offers an RFID solution with a market-proven combination of device management, automation, and integration with ePedigree and authentication systems |
Palo Alto, Calif. -- Blue Vector Systems today announced a Pharmaceutical Edition of its RFID automation platform. This RFID product offers pharmaceutical manufacturers, packagers, distributors, and retailers item-level track and trace, shipment accuracy, and integration with drug pedigree and authentication sys tems.
The Blue Vector Pharmaceutical Edition includes features that have proven most popular in pharma deployments. These include support for intelligent dock door, conveyor, shelf, and desktop RFID automation stations—either from Blue Vector or from third parties—as well as simultaneous support for multiple tag types including UHF, HF, and long range active RFID tags.
“Blue Vector addresses the need for a common, convenient platform to manage RFID throughout the supply chain in many different types of operations,” said Russ Klein, Director of Emerging Technology Research at Aberdeen Group. “The succ ess they have had in the pharma market with companies like McKesson and Rite Aid is a testament to the value of RFID in pharma.”
The RFID system orchestrates two-way integration with software applications from SAP, Supplyscape, IBM, and others to provide real-time track and trace, authentic ation, and drug pedigree tracking system integration. In addition to populating these systems with properly filtered events from RFID devices such as readers and sensors, the Blue Vector system also retrieves data from these systems to automate the beha vior of equipment and worker alerts. The Blue Vector system automatically distributes this downloaded data (which can include expected orders and the content of shipments) out to each individual point of RFID automation—no matter where it is geogr aphically located—where it is used to provide a degree of “business awareness” that isn’t possible with other RFID systems. By knowing what is supposed to happen at a given operational step, the system can instantly a Klein added, “Blue Vector has done a great job focusing on situations in which companies are tagging products, containers, and assets to improve the performance of their own operations. That’s one of the key success factors for moving a proj ect from pilot to wider scale production—the ability to show immediate business benefits that justify ongoing investments.”
