Head of Innovative Medicines Initiative at the European Commission to deliver keynote address at ICR European Conference in November

The 3rd European Conference and Exhibition of the Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) will take place in Belgium from 8th to 9th November 2007.

Attendees at the event will engage in debate on the key issues regarding EUROPE - the best place in the world to do clinical research?

At the conference, international clinical research professionals will hear presentations from leading European experts to stimulate discussion on a variety of topics including quality, diversity, funding and legislative matters.

Irene Norstedt, head of sector for the innovative medicines initiative at the European Commission will address the advantages of conducting clinical research in Europe.

The conference and exhibition is being held at the Le Plaza Hotel in Brussels from mid-day on Thursday 8th November until lunch-time on
Friday 9th November 2007.

Dr John Hooper, the ICR's chief executive, commented: "Our expert speakers from the European Commission, European Medicines Agency, major pharmaceutical companies and other leading organisations should provoke
some excellent debate."

Ms Norstedt has been working with various aspects of European Life Sciences research at the European Commission since 1996. She is
currently responsible for SME/industrial aspects of health/biotechnology within the Health Research Directorate. She has a MSc in Chemical Engineering from the Royal Institute for Technology in Stockholm and a degree in Pharmaceutical sciences.

The event will also address issues affecting the operation of clinical research in Europe and the critical factors influencing where a study is conducted geographically to consider how Europe can compete with the USA or developing countries, such as China and India.

The European Conference will also feature an exhibition where a few select exhibitors will showcase their products and services to the
conference delegates.

The 3rd ICR European Conference and Exhibition complements the 29th ICR Annual Spring Conference and Exhibition to be held at the ICC in Birmingham, UK on 8th and 9th April 2008 which regularly attracts more
than 1,200 attendees.
