The Spring Collaborative Communications Summit: Transforming Healthcare through Health Information Technology will take place May 5-7, 2008, at the Mandarin Oriental Washington D.C. (www.collaborativecommunicationssummit.com)
New York, NY -- The Spring Collaborative Communications Summit: Transforming Healthcare through Health Information Technology will take place May 5-7, 2008, at the Mandarin Oriental Washington D.C. (www.collaborativecommunicationssummit.com)

The theme for the sixth edition of the Collaborative Communications Summit (CCS) is 'HIT 2008: Achieving the High Performance Health Care System'. This year's spring summit will bring together some of the nations most influential and forward thinking healthcare leaders addressing HIT and where we're headed.

Several of the key concepts and topics that will be discussed at the Spring 2008 CCS include: how the 2008 presidential election and its candidates will impact the future of HIT; approaches and models, such as Six Sigma, for leadership and operational changes Health Information Management (HIM) professionals face through the transition to electronic Health Information Management (e-HIM); secondary use of data for achieving quality, performance, improved public health and safety; a unified vision between the consumer and provider through HIT; the benefits a provider organization has realized working with a RHIO; what is needed to accelerate the 'HIT Agenda'; EHR implementation; HIT payer perspectives; mobility and high performance healthcare; and chronic disease management and HIT.

Charles N. Kahn III, the President of the Federation of American Hospitals, will present a Keynote Address during the Spring CCS HIT. Kahn's presentation will take place at 4:15 pm on Monday, May 5.

Kahn is one of the nation's preeminent experts on health policy and Medicare issues, and his leadership on health care issues and in the political arena is well-recognized. Since becoming President of the Federation in June 2001, he has appeared every year on the "100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare" list published by Modern Healthcare magazine.

Kahn is also at the forefront of efforts to improve quality through the diffusion of health information technology. On September 13, 2005, HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt appointed him as a Commissioner and hospital industry representative for the American Health Information Community, a federal advisory panel responsible for providing guidance to the Secretary for the development, certification, and setting of national digital and interoperability standards for electronic health information technology.

Sponsors of the 2008 Spring CCS HIT include AT&T, Welch Allyn and CareData Solutions Corporation. Media and Association Partners include Federal Telemedicine News, FierceHealthcare, FierceHealthIT, ARMA International (Association of Records Managers and Administrators), American Hospital Association Solutions and Healthcare IT Transition Group.
